Running, Drawing, Writing

This post is incredibly late, but who cares? I don’t.

A couple weekends ago I ran my first 5k race ever. I am not a runner or rather I never used to be because I hated physical exertion for its own sake. I could snowboard, hike, or raft no problem, but the concept of “exercise” was one I loathed. That said, I realized at some point a year ago that I needed to get in better shape and began playing racquetball with a coworker of mine. I still play, because it’s fun. Some time last year I discovered the idea of Barefoot Running. The science behind it is that humans have naturally evolved to be good runners and that, in part, has contributed to our success as a species. We aren’t faster or stronger or more deadly than a lot of animals, but our hunter-gatherer ancestors were incredibly adept at endurance running. They basically would just chase their faster prey until it collapsed from exhaustion. That’s badass! AND fun!
I say all that to explain why I decided to be a runner; I want to be able to chase down deer and kill them with my bare hands. Actually, it’s that my geeky brain rationalized it into something I was okay with. And once you start running, it gets in your system.

Also, I’ve got 3 comics up, I hope you’ve enjoyed them so far. I will be updating regularly every Monday. I would update more often, but this is what my schedule allows and I’m working on a couple other things at the same time. Which brings me to my next topic…

I’ve always wanted to participate in NaNoWriMo but it takes place in November and as you can see, it is only the end of May. So, I have decided instead to do a practice run of sorts during the month of June. I will be writing a short story and the cool part is that I would like to experiment with posting my work as I complete it. This will give you a chance to see some of my writing process and read the story as it comes out. I realize this experiment has some flaws due to the often non-sequential writing process, but we’re gonna try it anyway!

And so it begins…

Well, it isn’t pretty yet, but my new site is live! Oh, and there’s nothing to see yet, but I’m working on that too…

Fire Under the Mountain will be my catch-all site for projects I’m currently working on. I’ll be starting with a comic or two and see where things go from there. Update schedule will be once a week for the time being. Since I decided to just get the site up and worry about aesthetics later, I will be working on touching things up as I go.

I’m pretty excited to finally be starting this, so here we go!
